When selecting a room size rug for the dining room, you need to measure the length and width of your table, adding 1’6″ per chair to your measurement. You will want the back legs of your chairs on the rug to avoid getting them caught on the edge of the rug when you are seated. Example: Your room is 12′ x 16′, your table is 6′ long and 4′ wide (with each table-leaf is 1′ 6”), we would suggest an 8′ x 11′ to 9′ x 12′ size rug for your room. To accommodate your chairs and table with one leaf in place, you would need a minimum length of 7′ 6″ and width of 10′ 6″. For a 15′ x 20′ room with the same size table and chairs we would suggest 10′ x 13′ or 10′ x 14′ rug size.
